Schedule

Azalea Dog Training Club hosts five training sessions per year. Orientation dates for 2007 are: Session I Jan 8thnd, Session II Mar 12th, Session III May 14th, Session IV July 16th, Session V Sep 24th. Unless otherwise indicated, classes run for 8 weeks and cost $95 for new students, $80 for returning students and $70 for rescued dogs. The schedule is usually as follows, but may vary depending on enrollment:

Monday
Monday classes meet every Monday evening except the fourth Monday of the month (which is the club’s meeting night)and the five Monday nights of the year during which orientation is held.

In our continuing effort to keep class sizes small AND allow all who wish to take classes with ADTC to attend, times and class levels and/or subject matter are subject to change. Classes begin on Monday nights at 6 pm. Although “Intro to Rally”, “Intermediate Rally” and “Competition Rally” are the classes slated, if, for example, we do not have any students wishing to take the Intro class, and have a higher number of Intermediate Rally students, we will hold two Intermediate Rally classes and no Introduction to Rally.

6 pm – 7 pm Introduction to Rally Obedience
This class is open to dogs and handlers who have completed at least one session of PreNovice Obedience training AND who have good heeling skills (tight leashes are a big ‘no no’ in Rally!) and reliable sits, downs and recalls. This class may be repeated as needed.

7 pm – 8 pm Intermediate Rally Obedience
This class is open to dogs and handlers who have completed at least one session of PreNovice Obedience training AND at least one session of Introduction to Rally class. Good off lead skills are a must. This class may be repeated as needed.

8 pm – 9 pm Competition Rally Obedience
This class is open to dogs and handlers who have completed at least one session of PreNovice Obedience training AND at least one session of Intermediate Rally Obedience class. Teams must be currently competing or ready to compete before the session ends. This class may be repeated as needed.

Tuesday

In our continuing effort to keep class sizes small AND allow all who wish to take classes with ADTC to attend, times and class levels and/or subject matter are subject to change. If the need arises, instead of the classes meeting on the 1/2 hour, they will start at 6 pm and run 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm. If, for example, we do not have any students wishing to take PreAgility and have an higher number of Beginner Obedience Students, we will hold two Beginner Obedience classes and no PreAgility.

6:30 – 7:30 pm Small Breed Puppy Obedience Class
This class is for dogs 4 months to a year whose adult weight will be no more than roughly 40 lbs. May be repeated depending on the maturity of the puppy.

7:30 – 8:30 pm Beginner Obedience Class
This class is for: A) Dogs 12 months or older with no prior formal training, B) Puppies progressing in their training from Puppy Class, or C) Dogs not yet ready to proceed to a higher level class.

8:30 – 9:30 pm Pre-Agility
Pre-Agility: Offered as needed (i.e. in order to hold a class, there has to be a minimum of 6 teams) This class is for teams who have completed at least one obedience class and need proofing on walking with a loose leash, sit, down, and stand stay, and come. Emphasis will be placed on the handlers’ control of their dogs around distractions. Dogs will also be introduced to beginning agility obstacles and techniques. This class is a great class to complete before proceeding to Beginner Agility.

Wednesday

In our continuing effort to keep class sizes small AND allow all who wish to take classes with ADTC to attend, times and class levels are subject to change. If the need arises, instead of the classes meeting on the 1/2 hour, they will start at 6 pm and run 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm. If, for example, we do not have any students wishing to take Beginner Agility and have an higher number of Intermediate Agility Students, we will hold two Intermediate classes and no Beginner, OR one Intermediate Class and two Competition Classes.

6:30 – 7:30 pm Beginning Agility Class
This class is open to dogs who have completed at least one session of obedience training AND who have a reliable ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘recall’. Puppies over 6 months may participate in this class, but jumping will be restricted. May be repeated as needed.

7:30 – 8:30 pm Intermediate Agility Class
This class is continuing education in Agility and a prerequisite for Competition Agility Class. May be repeated as needed, especially for those headed towards competition. In fact, repetition is encouraged!

8:30 – 9:30 pm Advanced/Competition Agility Class
This class is for dogs preparing for the agility ring! This is another class one can expect to repeat.

Thursday

6:30 – 7:30 pm Large Breed Puppy Obedience Class
This class is for dogs 4 months to a year whose adult weight will be over 40 lbs. This class may be repeated depending on the maturity of the puppy.

7:30 – 8:30 pm Pre-Novice Obedience Class
This class is for dogs/puppies who are proficient in formal basic obedience. It is the beginning of competition training and ‘fine tuning’ for a well-rounded companion. Canine Good Citizen Testing is offered at this level. We encourage this class to be repeated as needed.

8:30 – 9:30 pm Novice/Competition Obedience Class
This class is for dogs preparing for the competition obedience ring! Because of the ‘off lead’ work, dogs must be under voice control and have reliable ‘sits’, ‘downs’ and ‘recalls’. We ‘encourage’ this class to be repeated as needed. (this class fine tunes both members of the team!!)

The following classes are scheduled as needed:

Open and Utility Obedience
Advanced level competition obedience including retrieves, scent work, jumping, signals, etc

Therapy Dog Classes
Dogs must have at least basic obedience skills and be under control at all times. Dogs and handlers should have even temperaments and outgoing personalities. Canine Good Citizen Testing will be offered to those teams not already certified. Therapy Dog Certification is through Therapy Dogs, Inc. and is only awarded to those who complete a minimum of 6 hours of classroom instruction and 3 supervised visits to Rest Homes and/or Schools. ADTC offers Therapy Dog Classes as a public service and the fee charged is $5 to cover the handouts distributed in class.
